Tristan’s love life has one simple rule his brother, Trevor, is off limits.
To fight his relentless love for Trevor, Tristan left for college at sixteen. A new city, building a new life for himself, and making new friends weren’t enough to give up what he considers sick, twisted feelings. Tristan even started an anonymous blog to cope with his love for his older brother. It made him famous on the Internet, but it wasn’t enough to get over his obsession.
Every time he goes home, a quick glance at Trevor brings it all flooding back.
When commitment-phobe Trevor introduces his serious boyfriend on one of Tristan’s rare visits home, things get a whole lot more complicated for the adoring kid brother. How far can Tristan run this time before he runs out of places to hide from his feelings?
Disclaimer the main characters in the story are not blood relatives, the two boys were only raised as siblings.

While from the start it's pretty clear where the plot of this novella is going to take us, it's still a lot of fun getting there. Much of the credit for that goes to Alina Popescu's engaging writing style and how effectively she gives voice to Tristan, the book's narrator. As the blurb explains, the focus of the story is on Tristan's obsessive love for his stepbrother, Trevor. (I do wish Tristan and Trevor's names didn't sounded so similar, though -- a couple of times I had to re-read dialog to make sure who was speaking.)
A major drawback for me is that as the object of Tristan's affection, Trevor never manages to come across as more than a type -- in this case the strapping, lean-muscled demi-god with a perfectly sweet disposition and relentless sex drive. There is also very little back story to feed into Tristan's angst, and it bothered me that Trevor's physical appearance is what Tristan seems most focused on. The "inner Trevor" never really comes across or even seems very important. This prevented me from becoming truly invested in Tristan's obsession over him.
Instead I started to worry over the ways in which Tristan was willing to disrupt his own life in order to cope with his mania over his brother. He makes it the driving force behind one momentous life decision after another, yet despite his efforts to distance his feelings he's constantly on a hair-trigger for freaking out over any new development. When Trevor unexpectedly invites a date to join the family at their mother's birthday dinner, the possibility that there might be an actual boyfriend in his stepbrother's life pushes Tristan over the edge, into what sure seems like a nervous breakdown. This is all written with the breezy tone of a romantic comedy, so I know we're not supposed to be seriously worried about Tristan's mental health, but I have to say that by this point I was thinking that this is a guy who could at least use some counseling. I ended up feeling bad for him because of that more than because of his unrequited feelings for Trevor.
I know, I know -- I'm taking all of this way too seriously. "Br0th3rly" is meant as a confection of sorts, and I'll admit that when approached that way it's engaging and enjoyable.
If you're looking for more depth and realism in a story about step-brothers with mutually romantic feelings, I can recommend a book where there's back story galore along with just the right amount of heartache and tenderness: rock. Its path to HEA isn't always easy, but by the time you get there it feels richly earned and completely logical. You might even shed a few tears along the way. It's one of my all-time favorite novels.

Br0th3rly Famous on the Internet Book One edition by Alina Popescu Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Editing needed to be done, the basic story line not very original, and there really wasn't much of a story outside of brotherly love regardless. This was just ok for me. And the parents knew the whole time. I didn't really buy that but at least they accepted them.
Eh, it was free so for that I am grateful.
I really enjoyed this book by Alina Popescu! It had likeable MCs, well developed plot and good pacing. I personally would have enjoyed more sex scenes, there was only one...but it was the one that mattered, I suppose ) Looking forward to reading the next one!
I picked this up free a while ago, and then forgot about it until seeing someone else mention it. I am so glad I took the time to read it! The emotions are expressed so well, and interspersing the chapters with his blog posts was clever and added perspective to the story. Just a great read all around.
Set in three different formats, this book was approached not in a skeevy, salacious way. But in an understanding and humane way. Love is love, and sometimes it happens unexpectedly and where you least want or welcome it. The detail and emotion was terrific, if a bit repetitive at times. Of course, it was somewhat applicable to the situation. A definite recommendation!
I've had this book in my kindle for a while now and after reading the first few pages, all I could think about was why didn't I read this sooner???
The internal turmoil of feeling that much love for his sibling made me want to go in the book and give Tristan a bone-cracking hug. He couldn't deal with his feelings, so he did what he thought was best run. Run from his home town, run from his family, run far away from the only love he ever had and ever will. Who would have thought telling the truth changes things so much?
Taboo-themed romances have become popular recently, and with this novella that's the start of a new series, readers are given the impression of a taboo relationship between two men who always had a close bond even after discovering they weren't bound by blood. That discovery though didn't diminish their feelings of guilt and fears over how their parents and neighbors would react. It all leads to an engaging story full of angst and desperation that culminates in a few steamy interludes late in the story.
Tristan has loved Trevor ever since he discovered the meaning of the word but convinced himself his feelings were dirty because of their brotherly bond. Knowing that he could never love another has left him alone with very little sexual knowledge as he never wanted to give himself to anyone other than Trevor. To bury his feelings over the years he ran away from home, went to college under early admittance, stayed away from home as much as possible and buried himself in work. Everything changes though on the day Trevor introduces his family to his boyfriend as he looks a lot like Tristan. Running away doesn't work this time as Trevor soon follows and all the feelings that have been brewing between them come boiling to the surface.
Trevor always felt close to Tristan but didn't want to tarnish the connection they had as brothers. Instead of running and hiding though he buried himself in numerous one-night stands and alcohol. He acted carefree but inside he too was hurting. After the debacle of bringing his boyfriend home he can no longer ignore Tristan's tendency to run and puts his job, and the life he's lived thus far, on the line by speaking truths long kept hidden in a moment of intense relief and joy.
Tristan and Trevor are both so worried about what others think that they forget about their own happiness. Trevor held back the truth as he felt Tristan needed a brother more than anything else growing up. Tristan was too worried about rejection from his parents, Trevor, and his community to admit his feelings and constantly beat himself up over feelings of dirtiness and perversion. His angst was heavy-handed and palpable and I felt immense sympathy for him. While the two of them wallowed in unhappiness it was their parents who brought a bit of sunshine to the angst in this story as they were sweet and supportive from realizing their sons were gay to the feelings the boys had for each other. Their son's happiness was their only concern and they're what every kid would want in a parent. Along with a romance that percolated for most of the story before combusting in a sensual tug of war was a clever plot device that allowed readers to dig deeper into Tristan's psyche and innermost thoughts. Tristan's blog about his perceived questionable feelings for Trevor caught the attention of the publishing world and it's put him on the cusp of fame. His blog posts were thoughtful, humorous, and self-deprecating and I enjoyed seeing this other side of Tristan; a less serious one. On a whole this was a quick read full of intense emotions that ended just as it got started as I long to see their relationship evolve out in the open. It nicely balanced angst with steamy encounters to keep me fully immersed in the outcome and is another satisfying read from Ms. Popescu that has me excited for the next installment in this new series.
